About the Organbank

Colin the Colon

       Welcome to Amy's Organbank!

A while back, my father went in for a simple surgery and awoke nine days later to find he was missing his colon, spleen and appendix. It was Christmas, and what do you get a guy who has everything but a colon, spleen and appendix? So I made him a colon and spleen (I figured you don't need an appendix).

What was unexpected was the response. He had been very angry and upset, and had every right to be. But when he got his new organs, he cried for a minute and then hung them on his IV pole and asked the doctor, "What do I need to do to get out of here?"  It was forward momentum ever since.

A short time later, a family friend had the occasion to part with his gall bladder and Charles was born! My family and I spent a great deal of time in hospitals; the doctors and nurses loved them immediately and encouraged me to put them online.

But who is gonna buy a plush colon?
 Everyone.

I  immediately started getting requests for new organs.  A woman who just had a brain tumor removed needed "a new brain friend."  A mother of two needed a replacement kidney for her daughter who was donating hers to her little brother.  A future "booby doctor" required a test breast with a bead inside.

Another friend told me that she was born with just one kidney and one lung. I suprised her with new sets in the mail. She wrote, instead of calling, because she was crying with joy as her daughters danced around the room with them. She told me she never realized that she missed them so much.

I get the best emails in the world. From the giver, from the recipent, from friends of the recipient, the emails all speak of the strength and momentum that these little plush toys elicit. So no matter how busy I get (holding two jobs), I continue to make them. It is all worthwhile to help others find that hope and sense of completeness.

They fill those missing spaces with love and comfort!
I hope that your recipients find that same support in these little fellas!
